Tile floors and Garage doors.

Sorry i have not posted in a while the progress has been slower lately with winter, the days are so short.

Dad came down for the weekend to help tile the breezeway floors.  We put the cement board down Friday Night when he got here. Then Saturday AM we started cutting and laying tile.  It didn't even take that long.  Dad and I actually had time to go out shopping after it was done.
Travis and I spent Sunday Grouting and cleaning the tiles.

Our next jobs were to order some Garage doors.  Snow was in the forcast and we wanted to get those doors i before the garage filled up with snow.  We had to special order one of the doors because of the size.  While we waited for the garage doors to come in we decided to Poly the door and frame so we could get the window stickers off.  I think it came out nice.

The Garage doors came in last week when it was brutally cold out. Duane (our door guy) worked out in the cold off and on for three days to get the doors in before this big storm.  I still have to get a pic with the last bit of hardware on the outside of the doors.  But we were super happy to have them in when the plow stopped working after our first couple passes of this 14" storm and we needed a place out of the snow and wind to fix it.

Christmas is next week and this is how i know that ..

Breezeway progression

The breezeway is one project we wanted to get done before the weather gets too cold.  Travis has been working late into the evening every night after work to put up the insulation with some help from Ethan.

Hanging the Sheetrock on the ceiling especially has been a test of our relationship in such a small room you would think it would be easier but it just makes for more stuff to cut around and as first timers doing this it was interesting to say the least haha.

Mom and I picked up the tile for the breezeway when she was down for a conference a couple weekends ago.

We have put up all the hooks on the peg board now we just need to hang up all the tools.

Sorry Ethan....I think Bonnie has claimed the tractor for herself.

Getting ready for the cold

It has defiantly cooled off, especially at night.  This has us scrambling to get the insulation and other pre-cold projects done.  The breezeway has been a priority the last week or two.  We installed the Sheetrock that goes between the breezeway and the garage to form a firewall.  Travis also finished painting all the trim boards this week.

Now that you can't walk through the walls, we will have to be extra careful not to lock Bonnie in the breezeway.

We are in the middle of insulating the breezeway right now.  It is pretty itchy work.
We are taking all the proper precautions with the fiberglass insulation.
We are not even finished with the garage yet and it is already so full of toys that I can't park my car in there.  This is not a good sign.

Now it is up to us.

It is pretty much official. Jean has done his part and has now moved on to other projects. From here on  out the rest of the work is up to us.  Travis has been working hard on the landscaping with the help of the tractor Ethan is letting us borrow. He has spread loam and grass seed around the garage and it looks like next summer we are going to have even more lawn to mow. We might need a riding mower by the time it is all grass.

It has been a while since my last post and since then jean finished the trim work, water seal, windows and stairs.

Putting in the doors that we picked up were the last project that Jean did along with a few finishing details.
This first one will be stained and is between the kitchen and breezeway.

Love our new entry door.  Still needed the deadbolt in this pic. Can't wait to see what it looks like when we finally get the siding up and the granite slab steps.

Mom and Dad came down this past Friday to spend the afternoon and night here so we could head out for Mass. for Becca's wedding that weekend.  While he was here he installed the V-match boards and recessed lights for the breezeway overhang.

We have a Floor! and Roof!

Lots of progress made the last couple weeks.  We had a few more scorching hot days, one reaching about 100'.  Travis traveled to North Carolina for a work trip and decided to stay a few days after his classes finished and meet up with his parents to do the Blue Ridge Parkway in the RV with his parents.
I will have him make a post with some pictures from his trip later. While he was gone I was busy painting trim boards for Jean and shopping for doors.

Jean and his helpers got the garage all closed in last week.
This past weekend Mom and Dad came down to help me do the Electrical. We ran wire and hooked up the box, receptacles, lights, and switches for the first floor.

Monday we woke up to a monsoon.  The concrete was supposed to get poured early on Monday AM. Jean and some helpers showed up very early to make sure the roof was water tight. They were out there is the pouring rain putting down water shield. They tried to cancel the concrete that morning but they had already had the truck ready to go.  When the truck got here about 7am it was still raining hard. While the guys were all talking in front of the garage Jean looked down to the end of the driveway where the concrete truck was and noticed there was water sloshing out the back of the truck.  Turned out that the reserve water tank had malfunctioned and dumped 300gals of water into the concrete. Ended up being a blessing since the rain persisted hard all day. They rescheduled for today and the floor went in this AM.

While the concrete guy worked on the floor Jean and his crew worked on the roof.  The shingles and metal roofing all went up today. The breezeway roofing is all that is left.

The Heat Continues

The Hot and humid weather persists. It has been at least 5 days of 90's and sunny during the day. Last weekend I made up for missing my first 4th of July ever not in Milli.  I went home and spent the weekend with friends and family. Went for a hike and watched the rafters come down the falls on the Nob. Spent a lot of time swimming in the Pond and sipping cocktails on the patio.

Uncle Doug, Missy Dog, and Mom watching the rafts surf the falls.
 Aunt Sue and Ozzy Dog
The gangs all here. Dad, Sue, Sherri, Mom and Doug
 View from the Crib works.

This is what I came home to after the weekend.  The framing is pretty much done just the detail work now.  Mom and Dad are coming down this weekend to do all the wiring.  Sounds like i will be painting trim boards for the next few days in the heat. I am trying to bribe a friend to help since Travis is out of town for the week for work.

July so far

I have been too busy with work and 4th of July fun to post but there has been a lot of progress on the garage. They worked on getting a floor in for the second floor.

We took some time 4th of July to go out on the Ocean to try to stay cool since it was in the 90s and humid. We spent the day at Gosling Islands. We picked up our friends Todd and Nicole at the dock in time to have diner and watch the sunset from Peaks Island.  We watched the Fireworks from the Harbor on the boat.

The weekend was spent painting trim boards for the garage. We also had a picnic with Travis's Family then a Lobster Feast and Party with friends Sat night.

This week they have made some very noticeable progress by putting up all the walls for the second floor and the end trusses with trim.  We should have all the trusses up by the end of the week, however the rain has started back up again. Jean and the crew are still out there every day though in the Heat and Rain doing hard work.

These two pics were taken this am on my way to work before they had finished putting up the fourth wall. I will take new pics again the end of the week.
